REMEDIAL COUNSELLING FOR DYSLEXIA


Given the emotional and academic consequences for children with persistent reading disorders such as Dyslexia, evidence-based interventions are critically needed. Early detection and evaluation to determine specific needs and appropriate treatment can improve the success of remedial counselling. Dyslexia can be remediated by the use of specific educational approaches and techniques, and the sooner the intervention begins, the better.

Ms Pretorius designs a specific remedial counselling intervention plan for the Dyslexic learners, which targets particular skills deficits in reading or written language focuses on metacognitive and compensatory strategies to improve functioning. Direct, explicit, systematic instruction, coupled with best practices and research-based intervention strategies, are used to remediate Dyslexia.
